We are a volunteer based organization. Thought about wanting to get more involved? There are lots of way for you to do just that. Here’s a list of all the different jobs it takes to make Bonneville Off Road the cool experience that it is.

Board of Directors
Chairperson – Responsible for leading the board and facilitating meetings
Vice Chair – Acts as the board chair’s understudy and second in command
Board Member
- Attend all board and committee meetings, functions and special events.
- Participate actively in making decisions on behalf of the organization and to exercise their best judgment while doing so.
- Board members put the interests of the organization before their own interests when acting on behalf of the organization in a decision-making capacity.
- Be informed about the organization’s mission, services, policies, rules and programs.
- Review agenda and supporting materials prior to board and committee meetings.
- Serve on committees or task forces and offer to take on special assignments.
- Inform others about the organization.
- Suggest possible nominees to the board who can make significant contributions to the work of the board and the organization.
- Keep up-to-date on developments in the organization’s field.
Operations Manager
The chief officer of Bonneville Off Road, LLC and is responsible for the conduct of all business transactions and events of the organization. All other officials are responsible to the Operations Manager. The Operations Manager, in partnership with the Board of Directors, has the final decision on all issues involving any Bonneville Off Road, LLC events. The Operations Manager, in partnership with the Race Director, has full discretion to make any final determinations of, judgments on, or assess penalties with respect to all Bonneville Off Road, LLC rules.
Race Officials
Race Director
An Assistant Officer of Bonneville Off Road, LLC sharing responsibility with the Operations Director for the on-course conduct of all events. Chairman of safety and competition committees. The Race Director also executes other duties and responsibilities in partnership with the Board of Directors.
Volunteer Director
Identify all of the volunteer jobs that need to be done (checkpoints, road crossings, recovery, pit safety steward, radio communications). Coordinate volunteers for the positions listed above as the number of checkpoints, road crossings and recovery change each event. A typical number is between 12 to 24 persons. Ensure that there are people to cover the necessary jobs for race day.
Communications Director
Coordinate all on track communications.
Course Director
An individual who plans and coordinates the roads and trails that will be used for the event. Coordinate with the Operations Director so permits and sometimes land owner approvals can be obtained. Also is responsible for marking the course in preparation for race day. This person usually involves other volunteers for assistance. Generates at least one PDF map and one electronic map for distribution to the Volunteer Director for checkpoint identification, etc.
Safety/Pit Road Steward
- Monitor Pit Road activity for safe and compliant conduct by pit road personnel
- Monitor Speed Limits
- Monitor Fuel Containment and Fueling procedures
- Assist with set-up and maintenance – signage, cones etc.
- Respond to on-track emergency incidents
- Communicate with Race Control on track conditions that may affect drivers’ ability to race safely
- Assist with recovery efforts when an incident occurs
Race Official
An individual designated by the Race Director to officiate at a Bonneville Off Road, LLC event. There are normally several Race Officials for any given event. As a collective group, the term “officials” includes person designated an event official or event staff by Bonneville Off Road, LLC for a given event.
Checkpoint Captain
A race official appointed by Bonneville Off Road, LLC to direct the operations of a particular checkpoint and the immediate area around that checkpoint. Checkpoint captains are the direct representatives of the Race Director at their respective checkpoints. Radio communications are critical for checkpoints to be effective.
Competition Review Board (CRB)
A voting panel composed of the Race Director, Board Member and three randomly chosen drivers.
